A love for fine craftsmanship
with an eye for detail and technical perfection
MOGENS KOCH FURNITURE
Mogens Koch graduated as a building architect from the Royal Danish Academy of
Fine Arts in 1925 and worked as an assistant to architect and furniture designer
Kaare Klint until 1932. Mogens Koch also worked with other architects such as
Carl Petersen and Ivar Bendtsen until he opened his own studio in 1934.
Between 1950 and 1968, Mogens Koch was employed as a professor of restoration
at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture.
In addition to the many restoration projects as a building architect,
his love for furniture design was also very much in evidence. Here he focused
on the Danish traditions of functionalism: a rigorous design where every single part serves a purpose and where the emphasis is on a simple design language without superfluous ornamentation.
Mogens Koch had a penchant for good craftsmanship with attention to detail and technical perfection. His favourite materials were wood, leather, wool, canvas and other natural materials, as well as brass, which was used especially for functional design and the aesthetic expression of craftsmanship.
The furniture he designed was highly acclaimed and popular for its fine design,
skilful craftsmanship and beauty, where functionality and simplicity always took precedence.
Over the past few years, Mogens Koch Design has become an important partner,
and we are pleased to add icons such as the shelving system and the folding
series to our design portfolio.
