Magic lightning at Karlshof Zug

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Louis Poulsen in 2008, the historic manufacturer of the real & genuine PH Artichoke, it was decided to release 50 pieces of the largest PH Artichoke (840 mm) with 24 carat gold-plated leaves.

The anniversary artichoke, which has just been hung in
the Karlshof Zug, is numbered 10/50.

The individual leaves of the "PH Artichoke Gold" are first made of copper. The gilding process requires each leaf to have a flawless, mirror-like surface. The 6x12 leaves are highly polished and rigorously tested, then nano-polished before the actual gilding process takes place. The individual leaves of the PH Artichoke Gold are first made of copper. The gilding itself is a catalytic process in which the blades are immersed in a solution of chemically pure gold. A carefully controlled current is passed through the conical blade and a cathodic process deposits the pure gold onto the copper surface. The leaves are then finished with a clear lacquer. The insides of the blades are also gold-plated, but then painted white to ensure optimum light emission and to illuminate the lamp itself.
